Get voice and require it. Don't hesitate to kick people even if it just based off a bad hunch on the person, one bad member can cause five good ones to leave. When you recruit, be specific on what your guild does/does not do. Don't be cliqueish.

Being leader of a guild with 100 members there are a few things that I've figured out. For me keeping my guild active is having an inactive kick rule. My rule is that if you hit 2 weeks of being inactive you get kicked. I know that that means a lot of recruiting but I think it's worth it considering that i usually have more than 25 people on at one time. Next is officers. I require my officers to have and use vent atleast once a week. Yes I do make exceptions if say someones parents doesn't allow vent or doesn't want them to be on it very much if that person has been in the guild for more than 2 months. Recruiting wise I have one recruiting message saved and then i just go to kamadan District 3 and not spam but whenever i see my message disappear i post another one. Then i switch between shing jea and kamadan if it doesn't seem like very many people want recruited in kamadan. Well that is what i do and i hope it helped some people out. Seeya

Voice communication is nice, but don't require it. That is a form of discrimination against people who are hearing impaired!! Do have a website with forums so that members can communicate when not on line.
Get yourself noticed by being on Etreme 100 or similiar sites. Post an info page on Guild Wars Wiki. List you guild here on GW Guru. Have a charter for people to read that tells them what your guild is (and isn't) about. Do not blind invite. Get to know prospective recruits and see if they will fit in with your guild. Are they right for your guild? Is your guild right for them? Have a few dedicated officers that can help you run the guild: keep an eye on things, offer suggestions, analyze and comment on any major decisions. Spend time with your members. Get to know them. Help out newer players. Have fun! |

For those people who are looking to start up a guild, I must add my 2 cents.
1)The MOST(MOST(MOST)) important thing is to gain the knowledge about being in a guild. Be officer of a guild, then watch the guild leaders to see what you like and dislike. Build upon other people, creating a good foundation for your guild. 2)Continually strive for being a better person. People don't like a leader who doesn't try to better themself. 3)Always be nice. Instead of getting mad at anyone, remove them from the guild if it's serious, or ask them nicely to speak about it later. 4)I would like to supplement my opinion with all of Araliuns' on pg 2. Good Luck to you all -Corinth Leader of the RoMan Imperium |

- Don't spam recruit. Ever. Worst way to get bad players.
- Talk to your recruits. Ask them questions and don't lie about your guild. Make sure they know who you are, what you do, and if they are suited for your guild. - Keep an eye on guildless people if you PUG a lot. If they're the type of people you want, PM them after your current activity and offer them a spot. Also keep and eye on people that are in guilds, just PM them asking if they're happy with their current guild... if not, offer a spot. - Make a recruitment thread on this site. - Keep your members interested in your guild, do activities, and don't exclude people. Offer to teach some, and have them teach between themselves too. Helps creating links and friendships. - Don't take crap from any member. They beg? Have bad behaviors? Raging problems within guild groups? Talk with them, and if it doesn't solve the problem, kick. Last edited by Kusandaa; Dec 29, 2007 at 04:22 AM // 04:22.. |

Well, I've been leader in my guild for about 5 and a half month now and we're working pretty good.
Before I invite someone, I ask some questions about how long they've been playing, which campaigns they've got and which they've completed, how many days per week they're online and such questions about how good and active they are. Often I ask some questions for my own means to find out about their social competence. |

I've been in the same guild since day two of playing GW (almost 14 months now).
I'd say: Dont start a guild without a solid group of a few friends, either irl or from previously in the game. Its not vital but it makes things so much easier to start out with. "Financial Backing" for the hall, events/rewards for members blah blah Have a common aim with yourselves and your members, and head towards that aim as reguarly as possible. Talk to each other. Talk more to each other. Make sure everyone can deal and take jokes. As soon as drama starts, end it asap. Edit: A lot of people say never do public recruits, i agree with this to an extent, however sometimes it is necessary to get the guild going. Just make sure you get the guilds purpose across, talk to them and get them in, have a kinda test week, and if they are mutes/jackasses/whiney beggy types then lose them. For my guild I think this is the reason why it got picked as Guild of the Week:
-My guild is always active and the website contains things that can interact with the guildies e.g Guild member of the Month -When there is help there is always a person available -Forums and Events help the members know each other better -The guild is always active and there is always a convo going on -Our guilds use a unique teqnique where we treat the alliance as ONE GUILD and we don't use Guild chat...only Alliance chat. |

I think for us it was finding a common thread and theme.
We all came from less than pleasant guilds that sucked the gameplay out of us. Now, we unite and take pride in our guild. Stay in constant contact with each other. Vent, site, forum, wiki, etc... we even have a mission statement! Plus, when push comes to shove, we are all friends and remain together because we care about each other. You don't get that often in anonymous guilds. Communication is key. As a guild leader, I normally don't make decisions unless my guys and girls are onboard with it. Typically, they are game for whatever the majority want to do. |
